Doing things as usual isn't working. We need a serious paradigm shift to achieve better outcomes for our Ward 5 youth, for our Ward 5 elders, and for D.C.'s self-determination under full Statehood. It's time to level up Ward 5.
My top three issues are:
DC's Youth are our future. How DC protects and lifts up our youth will determine the outcomes of our city.
- We must end the punitive treatement of our children. Throwing young men and women in juvenile hall normalizes a future behind bars. End curfews now. Instead, fund and empower 24-hour recreation centers with community-based guidance and career counselors.
- Level up the playing field: Youth deserve safe, clean, and green play spaces throughout Ward 5. Exercise and liberated exploration in our open public spaces gives our children to connect with each other and our local ecology. DC needs to invest millions more in youth playtime and all new housing developments must include play areas for youth to develop.
- Let's listen to our youth. Level up with more youth townhalls in every Ward on a far more consistent basis.
DC's Elders are our well of wisdom. How DC sustains and bolsters our seniors as our historical storied bedrock makes our communities and city far more resilient.
- We must ensure health and wellness is readily accessible, and freely so for all of DC's seniors.
- Fund and sustain eight senior wellness centers throughout DC, one in each ward.
- Connect our elders and our youth to share experiences, knowledge, and help. Level up with more intergenerational activity meetups to connect our people young and old on a far more consistent basis.
If we ain't fighting for DC Staheood, then what are we really doing?!
- We must push past Home Fool to full Statehood Now!
- Leveling up means reparations for DC which then means wresting ourselves from oppressive interference by the racists on the Hill.
- I will continue my decades long activism and advocacy to see the 51st star sewn onto the U.S. Flag.
